Wheatgerm is the nutrient-rich embryo of the wheat kernel — the part that is removed during white flour milling. Gram for gram it is one of the richest food sources of vitamin E (tocopherols), thiamin, folate, zinc, and magnesium available. It also provides plant protein, fibre, and unsaturated fats. A few tablespoons sprinkled onto food gives a meaningful nutritional boost.
Sprinkle on yoghurt, porridge, smoothies, or salads; add to bread dough or muffin batter. Store in the fridge once opened — the unsaturated fats oxidise quickly at room temperature.
